After School Programs

After-school programs are an increasingly vital part of the educational landscape. These programs promote positive development as children acquire knowledge, language, and social understanding through engaging activities. Below is the list of the activities being offered this winter session.

Forensics:  Competitive Speech Team & Public Speaking Workshop
In Forensics, students select, prepare, and practice drama and speech presentations for performance at interscholastic contests.  Contests are held every three weeks or so and are open to 6th – 8th graders.  Non-competitive workshop activity is open to 5th graders as well.  League activity occurs on Sundays in order to accommodate all of our league’s member schools.  Some contests run from 9 – 1:30 while others run from 9 – 4:00.  Details regarding dates and locations will follow.

Intramural Sports Program – Winter Session:  Basketball
The intramural sports program is designed to provide a bridge between the learning of skills and tactics in grades 4 and 5 physical education classes and the organized, competitive athletic program which begins in the 6th grade.  This program is a wonderful opportunity to have fun while honing skills and tactics, learning rules and team cooperation, and playing full field or court games.

Photo Class
In this introductory photo class, students will be introduced to photo basics:  color, light, focus, composition and use of iPhoto. Cameras will be supplied.

African Xylophone and Drumming Class
Come play the rhythmically exciting xylophone music of Zimbabwe!  Students in this session will work together as an ensemble, layering uplifting melodies, harmony parts, and thundering bass lines, to create an exciting musical whole that is sure to get an audience up on its feet.  West African drumming will be explored, as well.
