We Are All Athletes

"The fact that our program is supported by the mission of the school makes us special. The fact that Nashoba Brooks is a co-ed school through grade three and a girls' school in grades four through eight makes us unique. Throughout all the grades, from youngest to oldest, athletic participation is an experiential classroom for personal and social development.”

— Chair, Physical Education Department

Lower Grade PE

All Nashoba Brooks students participate in a quality physical education program. In addition, students in grade one through grade three may participate in a weekly “Fun and Fitness” program that focuses on cooperative activities and games. A weekly intramural program, offered to fourth and fifth graders, provides a bridge between the learning of skills and tactics in physical education and in athletics.

An interscholastic athletic program for grades six through eight, which meets four days per week, offers a wide array of sports choices. (See Interscholastic Sports.) Among the unusual offerings for some of these grades are orienteering and kayaking, taking advantage of the woods and waterways that are features of the Nashoba Brooks campus. Sample units of study for these older girls include Heroes in Women’s Sports, Renaissance Games and Dances, and Adapted Sports Awareness, with visits from wheelchair athletes to offer students a glimpse into the experience of a person with physical disabilities who participates in sports.
