"Every day is a play date for me.” Extended Day Student

In keeping with the Nashoba Brooks balance of arts, athletics, and academics, after school programs offer students opportunities for focusing on special interests and enhancing social skills.  

Extended Day
(Preschool - Third Grade)

Play takes many forms at Extended Day. Each day, from 12:00 noon to 5:45 p.m., students in preschool through third grade gather for games and special projects. They also attend afternoon drama and musical performances presented by older students. The mix of ages is a plus of the program: preschoolers benefit from the attention of the older children, and the kindergarten-third grade group appreciates this chance to be leaders and good role models. 

The Nashoba Brooks School Extended Day Program, with enrollment by contract, provides a developmentally appropriate, safe and student-centered environment in which children feel respected and secure. The Program supports the school philosophy by stressing the importance of moral values and being a good friend as well as a positive group member. The transition from the classroom to our Extended Day program is very important. Each day children are welcomed with a warm greeting by a staff member.

At lunch together, we emphasize good table manners and encourage quiet socializing. The children learn responsibility by cleaning their table areas before leaving the dining commons. We also emphasize self-help skills (e.g., dressing oneself, independent toileting), while celebrating individuality. Outside time on the playground is important for building social relationships, learning to take turns, and using words to settle disagreements.

Supervised Study
(Grades 4 - 8)

• Tuesday Fun and Fitness (grades 1, 2, 3)
• Chess Club (grades 2-5)
• Forensics Team (grades 6, 7, 8)
• Bridge Camp (preschool – grade 3; program begins at close of school for summer until the opening date of most summer camps)
