Snow Volcanos: Erupt!

Grade 1 Science was truly explosive this week as students dove deeper into their study of landforms, focusing on one of the most fascinating geological features: volcanoes! ❄️🌋

To build a strong foundation, students explored the structure of volcanoes, learning about their key parts, including the magma chamber, vent, crater, and cone. They also examined the natural processes that lead to the formation of volcanoes and the powerful forces behind their eruptions. To bring this learning to life, students took their lessons outdoors for a hands-on experiment, creating their own erupting volcano models in the snow. Using a special chemical reaction, they simulated an eruption, watching as the “magma” bubbled up through the vent and flowed down the sides of the volcano as “lava.” This exciting activity allowed them to observe firsthand how pressure and gas buildup contribute to real volcanic eruptions, reinforcing their understanding of Earth’s dynamic forces in an interactive and memorable way.
