Kindergarten Night Magic

Sometimes “magic” feels like the only word to accurately describe the learning that happens with our students.
Beyond all of the careful research, planning, differentiation, scaffolding, collaboration, revisions, adaptations, and extensions that go into crafting an interdisciplinary unit of study at Nashoba Brooks School, sometimes “magic” feels like the only word to accurately describe the learning that happens with our students. Last night was one of those nights. Under the starry sky, our Kindergarten students brought their families to campus to experience our annual Night Magic sharing of understanding. This interdisciplinary unit has been part of our curriculum for decades, celebrating skills gained through scientific and artistic studies of the night sky; research on nocturnal animals; reading fluency and comprehension; as well as explorations of nighttime activities, stories, songs, and traditions from around the world. Hearing a six-year old share their new skills with pride, sing a lullaby in a new language, and share their dreams for our world is nothing short of magic. No wand needed.
