Parents Rave in Annual Survey

More than 75 parents responded to this year’s annual School survey and numbers were well balanced across all grade levels. The results of the survey are impressive and the feedback the parents offer to the School is glowing.
An amazing 99% of respondents say they are satisfied with their child’s academic experience at Nashoba Brooks School and 97% are gratified with their child’s experience at the school overall. In particular, parents have high praise for the quality of the teachers, the School’s communication with parents, integration of technology in the curriculum, and leadership experiences for students.

Parents have a lot to say when asked about the School’s strengths, with many of them remarking on the curriculum and the high quality of classroom instruction. As one parent explains: “The curriculum goes above and beyond straightforward academics to include problem solving, growth mindset, public speaking, advocating for yourself and for others, perspective taking, giving and receiving feedback, and inclusivity.” Another remarks, “I think foundational academic subjects (reading, writing, math) are incredibly well-taught…and in a way that students enjoy. I am constantly amazed at the subject matter that my young children are tackling in early grades—units on economics, different cultures, artists, etc—engaging my children and allowing them to explore the world from their classrooms.” And several families specifically mention the faculty: “There are so many strengths of the school, but if we had to name one, it would be the teachers. We think the teachers are phenomenal.”

Recommendations for improvement left some parents stumped, responding with comments like “to be determined” or “honestly not sure!!” Others were eager to see broader extracurricular offerings once pandemic restrictions ease, and some parents are interested in enhancements to specific areas such as music, science, math, diversity, or learning support. Other pandemic related concerns include challenges connecting with other parents, worries about screen time or digital citizenship, and frustration with mask mandates. Parents' individual concerns were presented constructively and often reflected an appreciation for the program and lines of communication with the School overall.

Given the limitations and challenges of maintaining an in-person experience throughout the last 18 months of the pandemic, the enthusiastic support from our parents in this survey is deeply gratifying for the School. You can feel the exuberance and gratitude in this parent’s reflection on the School’s greatest strengths: “Leadership, character development, empathic learning, advisor program, teacher-child personal connections, joyful learning, social studies, social justice curriculum, writing, study/organizational skills, respect for others, health program, exposure to all subjects. Hard to list them all. Nimbleness. Constant evolution. Teachers teachers teachers. Joy and love of learning everywhere.” Employees reviewed the results of the parent survey in a recent employee meeting with surprise and appreciation for the parents’ partnership and positive feedback. Our parents feel it’s worth the investment.
