Academics

Nashoba Brooks School educates children for a life of continuous, joyful learning, accomplishment, and leadership. We are a student-centered program, dedicated to the development of character in all aspects of school life. We believe strong character is essential to making a positive impact in our community and in the world. Teachers also recognize that such a program must radiate from a solid foundation of intellectual challenge, integrity, and continuous growth.

Nashoba Brooks School values personal excellence, defined as the commitment to doing one’s best, engaging in continuous improvement, measuring progress as well as outcomes, achieving proficiency, and making meaningful contributions to the community. Personal excellence guides all aspects of learning and leading at Nashoba Brooks, from engaging academics and athletics to character education and service learning. Every student is encouraged to be an active participant in their own learning process and discover their potential as leaders, innovators, critical thinkers, problem solvers, artists, and responsible global citizens.

Preschool - Grade 3

In our Lower School program, students of all genders discover and acquire essential life and learning skills. Balancing adventure and structured learning investigations throughout students' lower school experience, our students develop multicultural perspectives and feel inspired to engage in new academic challenges. Lower School students love coming to school because the classroom is an adventure—and our teachers are their guides on this journey.

Grades 4 -8

In our Middle School program, girls in Grades 4-8 lay foundations for healthy and strong self-concept, relationships, academic mindsets, and resilience. They rise to each challenge and lead in their own authentic way—speaking up in classroom discussions, shining on stage, and taking academic risks to push their knowledge. Our Middle School program is designed and intended for girls at this age and stage—how they learn, how they develop, and how they hone skills that allow them to be successful in high school and well beyond.

What our program offers

  • Experiential Learning: Our beautiful 30-acre campus offers students ample opportunity to explore the natural world. We couple our environmental science curriculum that spans Preschool through Grade 8, with hands-on, experiential learning that keeps students active both indoors and outdoors around the woods, trails, and ponds on campus. We believe students learn by doing and applying what they know to real world scenarios.
  • Integrated Curriculum: At Nashoba Brooks we recognize the role that information and literacy skills play in all subjects, as well as its interconnection across disciplines. As such, we have a dedicated Information Services (IS) Team that works with every teacher and student in Preschool through Grade 8 to thoughtfully integrate research, literacy, digital citizenship, and hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) skills into all aspects of the core curriculum.
  • Interdisciplinary Pedagogy: Research has long shown the value of breaking down the traditional walls between disciplines and teaching students in ways that mirror the real world. At Nashoba Brooks, our teachers accomplish this by collaborating on unit designs, co-teaching classes, and offering multiple perspectives on issues through our interdisciplinary approach.
  • Leadership in the Classroom: Our students frequently share their thinking with peers, parents, and community members. They stretch themselves as public speakers and learn to work collaboratively in groups, advocating for their needs and those of others. At each developmental age and stage, we talk about how to lead, both in everyday informal moments, and more formalized opportunities that lend themselves to each unique student’s interests and strengths.

They are posted in every classroom, discussed regularly in classes, and celebrated in our all-school assemblies. When students in Grade 8 run for class leadership positions, they use the cores values to frame their goals and outcomes.

These core values help us to define our work and our relationships. They help our students build a perspective on their lives at School and their place in the world beyond our walls.
