Energized by Future Leaders

What keeps you energized?
Earlier this week, I had the incredible good fortune to speak to Rick Melvoin’s Independent School Leadership class at Harvard Graduate School of Education. This is always a highlight of the year for me. Connecting with accomplished and aspiring leaders who are committed to advancing the field of education is always a source of good energy, great questions, and fresh perspectives. Thank you to this impressive class at HGSE for adding a little extra energy to my day. I can’t wait to hear more about all that you do to advance our work in education! Toward the end of the class, one of the students asked thoughtfully, “Being a head of school is a challenging job, what keeps you energized to go back to work every day?” I love a question that spurs reflection, has an easy answer, and provides a gift of ongoing joy. Answer: I know that it is a gift to work in a place where I will be inspired every day by the students, employees, alumni, and community in which I work. I know that I will get good questions like this one from educators who will help me reflect and continue to learn every day. What keeps you energized?
