This Doesn’t Just Happen

Ever wonder just how hard that duck is paddling underneath the surface to maintain that smooth presentation on the surface?
Years ago, a trustee shared a story that has stuck with me, and resonated throughout my time at Nashoba Brooks School. As an executive in a start-up biotech firm, she was meeting with venture capitalists to raise a fund for a truly cutting-edge, change-the-world initiative. As a prelude to her pitch, she was invited to join the group for a boondoggle, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that…wait for it…involved camping in the field of a NASCAR race. This trustee was brilliant, and brilliantly put together, from her tailored pantsuit and perfectly curled hair to her 3.5-inch pumps. After describing her not-to-be-turned-down invitation, she looked at me and said, “You know, this doesn’t just happen.” I am reminded of this often at Nashoba Brooks. It is true that this doesn’t just happen. What happens at Nashoba Brooks is something we research, plan, iterate, and create together, built on dedication to our mission, a focus on our students and an unwavering commitment to continuous learning, growth, and improvement at every level. Ever wonder just how hard that duck is paddling underneath the surface to maintain that smooth presentation on the surface? Listen closely to teachers as they share the why and how behind what they do in the classroom.
