The Power of Stories

When someone is willing to share the gift of their story, how might we create the time, space, attention, and skills to ensure that they are heard?
Nashoba Brooks recently had the exceptional good fortune to welcome James Bruchac to our campus and community. A citizen of the Nulhegan Abenaki Nation and eldest son of Abenaki author and storyteller Dr. Joseph Bruchac III, James Bruchac captivated our students with stories of native culture and the natural world. The wisdom of his sharings reminded us all of the essential power that stories have to help us preserve our history, share our learnings, recognize the interconnectedness of our natural world, understand our responsibility to ourselves and each other, and imagine a path toward a brighter future. When someone is willing to share the gift of their story, how might we create the time, space, attention, and skills to ensure that they are heard? What other stores are waiting to be shared?
