Grade 8 CSPAN StudentCam Winners
This winter in Social Studies, our Grade 8 students worked in collaborative groups to complete their submission to the C-SPAN StudentCam national video documentary competition. StudentCam is an annual competition that encourages students to research and engage with issues that affect local and broader communities across the nation. This year’s competition theme was: “If you were a newly elected member of Congress, which issue would be your first priority and why?” Two groups from Nashoba Brooks School received national recognition. Congratulations to Katie M. and Keira M. for receiving Honorable Mention with “The Social Overload,” and to Third Prize winners Felicia C., Coco S., and Ellie E. for their film “Not Me.” Both documentaries can be viewed on the C-SPAN website. Felicia, Ellie, and Coco were featured on GBH news, and a representative from C-SPAN visited campus to present both groups with their awards!
This project aligns well with our core values. Students must demonstrate resilience through completing in-depth research and filmmaking, collaboration through group work, and empathy as they expand their knowledge to incorporate diverse viewpoints and opinions aside from their own. We are incredibly proud of our entire Grade 8 class for their work throughout this process!
