C-SPAN Student-Cam Documentary Winners!
Nashoba Brooks is proud to have once again placed in the annual C-SPAN Student-Cam Documentary contest with Addi. K and Chloe B.’s project, “Securing Tomorrow: An Exploration of AI in Cyber Defense.”
As a part of their annual curriculum, Grade 8 students are tasked with creating a short 5-6 minute documentary on a topic of their choosing for the C-SPAN Student-Cam Documentary contest. This year, out of 1,600 submissions from students across the country spanning Grades 6-12, 150 prizes were awarded in total, of which only 30 went to Middle Schoolers. Nashoba Brooks is proud to have once again received one of these coveted spots, taking Third Place for Addi. K and Chloe B.’s project, “Securing Tomorrow: An Exploration of AI in Cyber Defense.”
Now in its 20th year, StudentCam is an annual competition that encourages students to research and engage with issues that affect local and broader communities across the nation. With this year’s competition theme, "Looking Forward while Considering the Past," AI was a popular topic, but Chloe and Addi’s focus on cybersecurity and their dive into both the benefits and worries concerning this new technology set them apart. “We had been looking at AI as having just a negative impact,” Addi notes, “but as we continued interviewing and researching we were able to see the potential it has.” Chloe continues, “It’s a neutral tool and many different people can use it for many different outcomes.”
Chloe and Addi’s success was celebrated this morning with a screening of their film, an award celebration, and well-wishes from many individuals including Rep. Simon Cataldo and Sen. Ed Markey. This win secures the tenth consecutive winning placement for a Nashoba Brooks team and a 100% record for every year we have participated.
